Set yourself up for success! Start with the OUPV "6-Pack" Captain's License course for Recreational Vessels spread out over three weekends: Per USCG guidelines for all schools, the OUPV '6-pack' license is the first 75% of the Master's 100-Ton license, including Rules of the Road, Chart Plotting, Navigation General, and Deck General/Safety. The Master's license allows you to operate Inspected Vessel for Hire. Topics include fixed firefighting systems, safety drills, and lifeboat deployment.
You can easily upgrade later as needed to pilot commercial vessels without having to 'bite off the whole apple' of information at once. Click the "USCG Licenses" tab for detailed information.
